Tomorrow is Earth Day. I’m not really sure how we are expected to celebrate a day called “Earth Day.” I hope that people will consider how they can improve the quality of life on our planet by making changes to their habits and lifestyle. Even some small changes can make a big impact.
For instance, we don’t use paper napkins anymore. It sounded like a monumental change at first, but it’s really not a big deal anymore. I just started accumulating inexpensive cloth napkins and we use them every day. Some of our napkins are new (we have some lovely ones here at our store) and some are vintage that I pick up at garage sales and antique stores. I have enough now that I only have to wash one extra load of laundry every week or two. Sometimes I just toss them in with another load and there is no extra. This is an easy change to make and saves a lot of trees.
We also don’t use “paper or plastic” bags. We have reusable bags that go to the store with us. The trick to this is always having the bags with you. Our solution is to place them by the door as soon as they are empty and take them right back out to the car on our next trip. This way some are always in the car to use when shopping. I really hated having all those plastic bags in my house that I never knew how to dispose of.
These are just a couple of ways we have tried to make a small difference. I hope that everyone will think of some way they can contribute to making our planet a better place.
Happy Earth Day!!
