Just in at Honeysuckle Home – countertop compost pails! We have two different styles: stainless steel and white stoneware.
Are you composting? I started about six months ago. We take all of our fruit and vegetable scraps to the backyard and put them in a pile. This spring I will be learning how to turn the pile into something I can use in my garden. One of my daughters spent a semester at a school in Maine studying environmental science where she learned about composting, organic farming, alternative energy sources, and other environmental issues. Now she can teach me about composting!
I have often looked at this pile of food waste in my yard and wondered why I didn’t start long ago. I think of how this represents the accumulation of just one family for such a short time and I wish I had been keeping this out of landfills for years, instead of just a few months. I encourage everyone who can to start composting if they haven’t already done so. I’m lucky enough to have a big yard but it can be done in small spaces and even in apartments if you are willing to have worms. I understand they can only handle small amounts though. We had the worms in our house at one time for a science project (same daughter) and they weren’t bad at all.
I plan to take one of our new countertop pails home to replace the plastic bowl we have been using.
